Buy less. Buy better. Keep it.
I started Second Wave while I was at university studying biochemistry. But I just didn't care about it. What I did care about was clothes. I started selling vintage on the side to make some extra money, and when I finished uni I just kept going and never wanted to do anything else.
My first office was an attic room in a shared house. You couldn't stand up in it, couldn't even sit in a proper chair. I was in there for nearly a year working 12 hours a day sitting on a beanbag. My back has never been the same since. From there we moved into our first real studio, then a few more after that. A couple closed on us, one move was genuinely one of the most stressful things I've been through, and now we're in our current place, which fingers crossed is where we stay for a while.
We focus on archive pieces from the 80s, 90s and 2000s. Things you haven't seen before and can't find anywhere else. That's what I really love. Finding something genuinely rare and getting it to someone who appreciates it.
The reason I believe in vintage is simple. The best clothes have already been made. Almost everything being produced today is referencing or borrowing from something that already exists. So why not just buy the original? On top of that, fast fashion is genuinely harmful, to the environment and to the way we think about what we own. I wanted to build a business that goes against that.
We're a small team and I'm proud of that. The goal has always been to be a shop people come back to because they trust us, not because they need to replace something that fell apart.
